Spring is in full bloom at Lilac Festival
Flowers are in bloom, and what better way to celebrate spring than to spend your day in Smith’s backyard, at the 4th Street Lilac Festival!
On Sunday May 31st the 4th Street Lilac Festival kicks off Calgary’s festival season by bringing thousands of people together to enjoy free entertainment and a chance to reconnect with the effervescent communities of Mission and the Beltline. The Lilac festival is a pedestrian friendly event and is located between 13th Avenue SW and Elbow Drive along 4th Street, just three blocks from Smith!
The Lilac Festival offers something for people of all ages; from a range of musical performances, local vendors and delicious cuisine, to an array of children’s activities and entertainment. The festival begins at 10:00 am with a parade beginning at 25th Avenue, along 4th street, and finishing at 13th Avenue SW.
Last year the Lilac festival took on an initiative to reduce the amount of event waste, and successfully diverted 45% of the events’ waste from the landfill! The goal in 2015 is to increase this reduction in waste to 75%. To make the festival even more environmentally friendly, the Lilac Festival will be providing bike valets and bike racks at each intersection to make riding your bike even easier! Visit the website
for more information on how to get to the event, or to learn more about this year’s activities and vendors.
